Dr. Joseph Battin is proud to carry on the legacy as owner and Optometrist of Battin Eyecare that was established by his grandfather, James Battin, in 1952. Born and raised in Hamburg New York, Dr. Battin is deeply rooted in the community he now serves. He graduated from Canisius High School before earning his Bachelor of Science in Molecular Biology from Syracuse University. He went on to receive his Doctor of Optometry degree from the Illinois College of Optometry in 2010. He then worked at various offices to hone his skills set including spending 10 years at a local Ophthalmology practice that specialized in cataract surgery and disease management.
As the sole owner of all three practice locations, Dr. Battin is dedicated to providing exceptional eye care while building lasting relationships with the families and individuals who walk through his doors. He believes in treating every patient with the same care and respect he would offer his own family. Dr. Battin is also actively involved in the community, supporting local events and staying connected to the people and places that have always been a part of his story. Outside of work, he enjoys skiing, golfing, and spending quality time with his wife Carly and their two children, Marlowe and Camden. For Dr. Battin, optometry is more than a profession—it’s a way to give back to the community that has given him so much.
Dr. Murzynski is a proud Hamburg native with a passion for primary eye care for all ages. During her time at SUNY College of Optometry, she was a member of the American Optometric Student Association and served as the President of the school’s student chapter of the NYS Optometric Association. Throughout her experience, Dr. Murzynski has seen first-hand how good vision and visual skills impact a child’s development. She is committed to helping children reach their potential, from prescribing the right pair of glasses to training children’s visual systems for current and future success.

Michele has been an optician for 25 years and has proudly been part of the Battin Eyecare family for 13 years, calling it her “second home.” A graduate of the ECC Ophthalmic Dispensing Program in 1999, Michele is passionate about patient care, taking the time to understand each patient’s personality to help them select frames that perfectly fit their style and identity.
Outside of work, Michele enjoys working out and baking. She has been happily married to her husband, Mike, for 23 years and is the proud mother of two children.
Kelsey is excited to join Battin Eyecare as an Optician & Executive Strategic Manager! With six years of experience in the field, Kelsey has followed her fathers footsteps, developing a deep passion for helping people not only see clearly but also feel confident in expressing their uniqueness- whether through eyewear, makeup, fashion or personal style.
Bringing both expertise in vision care and a strategic mindset, Kelsey looks forward to making a meaningful impact, helping clients embrace their individuality while driving innovation and growth. This new chapter is all about clear vision, bold style, and empowering confidence.
James Fernandez, known to many as Jimmy, has been a cornerstone of George Optical since he first began working alongside his father in 1978. His introduction to the optical world was rooted in family and tradition—his father had taken over George Optical from its original founder, Joseph George, in 1972. From those early days, Jimmy developed not just a skill for the craft, but a deep passion for patient care and community service. In 1999, Jimmy officially took the reins as owner and operator of George Optical, continuing the legacy while making it his own. Under his leadership, the business has grown and evolved, including its pivotal merger with Battin Eyecare in 2020. Despite the changes over the decades, one thing has remained constant—Jimmy’s unwavering dedication to his patients, the business, and the community he proudly serves. Today, Jimmy continues to run the daily operations with the same care and commitment that has defined his career for over four decades. His loyalty, experience, and personal touch are not only invaluable—they’re the heart of George Optical.
